Oaxaca Residency (Arquetopia)

Oaxaca Residency (Arquetopia)

It’s finally here! I started my first residency this week. I’m studying screen printing with natural pigments for three weeks. During college screen printing was my jam! But I haven’t done much because I’ve been lacking skills and tools.

Week one:

First things first. The workspace. It’s my dream to have an outdoor space, so this space is soooo exciting for me.

This week we began processing four plants: muicle, pericón, palo de Brasil, and cáscara de nuez.

So far there is only one plant fully processed and ready to be made into screen printing ink- the pericón. But that’s because of the varying filtering times.

The biggest takeaway so far, is that I’ve been SEVERELY underutilizing my plant materials. I can’t wait to begin using my pigments.

Note: I’ve decided that instead of making the blog part of the paid membership area, I want it to be accessible. But I will be adding an option for folks to be able to donate to my practice at the bottom of each blog post. Being an artist requires so much time and money, of which we usually have neither. So community support is essential to our progress as artists. Thank you so much for being here.
