Black Lives Matter When They Are Alive

Black Lives Matter Mural Project

6’ x 33’

June 7, 2020

Located at the MSA Annex in Tucson, AZ

This mural was part of a series of murals created by BIPOC muralists in Tucson during 2020. During this time we were seeing lots of protests about the abuse of power that led to deaths, imprisonment, and otherwise harm of Black Americans. Each image represents a person or situation where a Black life was threatened and/ or terminated due to racial police violence. And while each of these victims made headlines and went viral, their lives matter long before they were harmed by those they should have been able to turn to for safety. The hope is that we begin to value the lives of Black folks, as well as other marginalized groups long before they become headlines. Creating spaces for them to thrive and live without the constant fear of police violence looming over their heads.

Unfortunately this mural is no longer visable, as it was on a temporary wall that has since been removed.
